How Long Does GST Registration Take in Gurgaon?

GST registration timelines in Gurugram explained - the 3 working day Rule 14A route, the 7 working day standard route, and when it can take 30 days.

“Can I get my GST number in one day?” is a question we hear every week in Gurugram. The honest answer is that the time depends on which route your application takes, whether Aadhaar authentication is completed, and whether the officer raises a query. Here is how the timelines work under the CGST Rules.

The three timelines at a glance

Route When it applies Time for grant
Simplified registration (Rule 14A) You opt for it, and your monthly output tax on supplies to registered persons will not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh Within 3 working days, granted electronically after Aadhaar authentication
Standard route (Rule 9) Aadhaar authentication completed and application not flagged for verification Within 7 working days of the application
Verification route (Rule 9) Aadhaar authentication not done, or the application is flagged for physical verification on risk parameters Within 30 days of the application

If the officer does not act within the applicable period, the application is treated as approved under Rule 9(5).

The 3 working day route under Rule 14A

Rule 14A was inserted by Notification No. 18/2025-Central Tax and has applied since 1 November 2025. It is meant for small businesses that mainly sell to consumers or have limited tax on sales to registered buyers.

  • Eligibility test: your total output tax (CGST, SGST, IGST and cess) on supplies made to registered persons should not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh a month. It is a test of tax, not turnover.
  • Aadhaar is compulsory: the promoter or authorised signatory must complete Aadhaar authentication.
  • One per state per PAN: you cannot hold a second Rule 14A registration in the same state under the same PAN.
  • Moving out later: if your business grows past the limit, you apply in FORM GST REG-32 to withdraw from the scheme. Your GSTIN continues.

For many new proprietors, traders and online sellers in Gurugram, this is now the quickest way to a GSTIN.

The standard 7 working day route

Most other applications follow Rule 9. Once Aadhaar authentication is completed and the documents are in order, the officer should approve within seven working days. If something is missing or unclear, the officer issues a notice in FORM GST REG-03, and you reply in FORM GST REG-04 within seven working days of receiving it. The officer then has seven working days from your reply to decide.

When it can take 30 days

The longer timeline applies when Aadhaar authentication is not done, or when the portal or officer flags the application for physical verification of the place of business. In Haryana, flagged applicants may also be asked to complete biometric Aadhaar authentication at a GST Suvidha Kendra. We explain that process in our guide to biometric verification for GST registration in Haryana.

What actually causes delays

In our experience, most delays come from the application, not the department:

  • address proof that does not match the address typed in the form
  • an unsigned or expired rent agreement, or a missing consent letter
  • a business description or HSN/SAC codes that do not match the actual activity
  • no reply, or an incomplete reply, to the officer’s REG-03 query
