Which Address Can I Use for GST Registration in Gurgaon?

Owned, rented, home, family-owned, shared or virtual office - which addresses work for GST registration in Gurugram and the proof each one needs.

By Kailash Vashisht. Published 28 October 2026

Every GST registration needs a principal place of business: the address from which you actually run the business and keep your records. The address must be supported by valid proof, because the department can verify it physically. Most rejections and queries we see in Gurugram start with the address.

Address options and the proof each needs

Type of premises Proof normally uploaded
Owned by you Latest electricity bill, property tax receipt or ownership document
Rented Signed rent agreement, plus the owner’s electricity bill or ownership proof
Your home, used for the business Electricity bill or ownership proof for the house
Owned by a family member Consent letter from the owner, with the owner’s ID and ownership proof or electricity bill
Shared office or co-working space Agreement with the space provider, NOC or consent letter, and the provider’s electricity bill or ownership proof
Virtual office Same as a shared office, and the business must genuinely be reachable at that address

Can I use my home address?

Yes. There is no rule that you need a shop or commercial office. A residential address is accepted if the business is actually run from there and the proof is in order. If the house is in a parent’s or spouse’s name, add a consent letter from them.

Is a virtual office address accepted?

A virtual office can be used, but treat it with care. The law does not recognise a “virtual” place of business as a separate category. The address must be a place where your business is carried on and where the department can find you or your records. If the officer visits during physical verification and the business is not found there, the application can be rejected, and an existing registration can face cancellation proceedings.

Before taking a virtual office for GST, check that:

  • the agreement names your business and the exact unit or seat
  • the provider gives a signed NOC and its own electricity bill or ownership proof
  • the provider will receive notices and allow your name board or display of GSTIN
  • you can actually work from there when needed, especially during verification

Mistakes that cause queries or rejection

  • the address typed in the form differs from the electricity bill, even slightly
  • an unsigned, expired or incomplete rent agreement
  • no consent letter when the property belongs to someone else
  • uploading a bill that is very old or in a different property’s name

Additional places of business

A godown, warehouse or second office in Haryana can be added later as an additional place of business through an amendment, with proof for that address. A place of business in another state needs a separate registration in that state.
